An UPS (uninterruptible power supply) can become an essential part to any office, or for one's beloved gaming rig. Whether the need for an UPS is to protect important documents when the power goes out, or squeezing in a few more minutes of gaming in before boredom the sets in, one can come in hand for in many situations. One pointer they give is that you should keep in mind, when making a purchase the price you pay for the amount of power you'll be receiving. An Ultimate Extra Released...Wait What Was That Again?

The "exclusive" extras to the owners of Window Vista Ultimate, have emerged yet again after a long, long hibernation. Today, Microsoft released an "Ultimate Extra" for the owners of Vista Ultimate, which is hardly an extra at all. If you call a resource hungry task running in the background, although it may be beautiful, an extra then your senses might appeal to Dreamscene. This extra, which was supposed to be released at the latest by the end of the summer was released today. A deadline which was not met because the development of the extras was somewhat delayed for some obscure reason. If these "extras", are an exclusive to Ultimate owners, I would expect better from Microsoft. As many of you know I am a Microsoft fanboy, but this issue just ticks me off a bit. Premium customers should be treated as so, and not left in the dust. If you would like more information about the development of these "extras" follow the link at the bottom of the post. I do apologize about the rashness of this post, but this just gets on my last nerve.

Halo 3 in Full Throttle

Last night, at 12:01 the much anticipated Halo 3 was released. This third chapter to the Halo series ends the Halo trilogy, leaving many quite satisfied. The guys over at C|NET's Gamespot have given the game an in depth review, and as to be expected the game got an excellent review of 9.5. Some of the things that the guys at Gamespot liked about the game were:

Satisfying storyline that simultaneously provides closure while making you wonder what will happen next
Four-player online co-op is a lot of fun
Forge mode map editor lets you do some extremely crazy and unexpected things
Web integration makes sharing new maps and custom modes easy.

Vista Performance and Compatibility Hotfixes Go Official

Finally, the long awaited Hotfixes for Windows Vista have been released, the "Performance and Reliability" and "Compatibility and Reliability" Hotfixes. I have yet to see them go through windows update, but they are posted on Microsoft's website. Enjoy your patching!

Performance and Reliability Hotfix:

You experience a long delay when you try to exit the Photos screen saver.
A memory leak occurs when you use the Windows Energy screen saver.
If User Account Control is disabled on the computer, you cannot install a network printer successfully. This problem occurs if the network printer is hosted by a Windows XP-based or a Windows Server 2003-based computer.
When you write data to an AVI file by using the AVIStreamWrite function, the file header of the AVI file is corrupted.
When you copy or move a large file, the "estimated time remaining" takes a long time to be calculated and displayed.
After you resume the computer from hibernation, it takes a long time to display the logon screen.
When you synchronize an offline file to a server, the offline file is corrupted.
If you edit an image file that uses the RAW image format, data loss occurs in the image file. This problem occurs if the RAW image is from any of the following digital SLR camera models: Canon EOS 1D or Canon EOS 1DS
After you resume the computer from hibernation, the computer loses its default gateway address.
Poor memory management performance occurs.

[Performance and Reliability Hotfix Download]

Compatibility and Reliability Hotfix:

The screen may go blank when you try to upgrade the video driver.
The computer stops responding, and you receive a "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error message. You can restart the computer only by pressing the computer's power button.
The computer stops responding or restarts unexpectedly when you play video games or perform desktop operations.
The Diagnostic Policy Service (DPS) stops responding when the computer is under heavy load or when very little memory is available. This problem prevents diagnostics from working.
The screen goes blank after an external display device that is connected to the computer is turned off. For example, this problem may occur when a projector is turned off during a presentation.
A computer that has NVIDIA G80 series graphic drivers installed stops responding.
Visual appearance issues occur when you play graphics-intensive games.
You experience poor playback quality when you play HD DVD disks or Blu-ray disks on a large monitor.
Applications that load the Netcfgx.dll component exit unexpectedly.
Windows Calendar exits unexpectedly after you create a new appointment, create a new task, and then restart the computer.
Internet Connection Sharing stops responding after you upgrade a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP to Windows Vista and then restart the computer.
The Printer Spooler service stops unexpectedly.
You receive a "Stop 0x0000009F" error when you put the computer to sleep while a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection is active.

Microsoft Cuts the Price of the Xbox 360

Yes, it is true Microsoft on Monday did announce that they will be cutting the price of their 360 console, in all its various forms. They will be slashing $50 off the Premium consoles bringing the price to $350, $30 off the Elite bringing it down to $450, and $20 off of the Core system bringing that down to a very, very low $280. This price cut is effective as of Wednesday, so get you wallet ready! If you've been waiting for a price drop to buy your 360 console, here is your opportunity!

Ars System Guide: Gaming Box

Over at Ars Technica, they've compiled a guide to building a gaming PC. They have both a Value Gaming Box and a Performance Gaming Box. The Value system being for the gamer on a budget and the Performance system being for the gamer whom wants the hottest performance out of their gaming PC. The Value system will cost you $1,237.66 not including shipping, and the Performance system will set you back $2,802.81 also excluding shipping. So, if you want to build a gaming system and are in a pickle trying to figure out which hardware to get, Ars has created two very good gaming PC's to base yours off of.

AMD's "Asset Light" Strategy

If you've been in the clouds, about what AMD has been up to lately here is your explanation. At AMD's Analyst Day presentation AMD explained their "Asset Light" strategy in quite a bit of detail.

When AMD purchased ATI, they began to submerge themselves into many new product markets. The term "Asset Light" refers to the incorporation of AMD and ATI interests and resources, the optimization of those resources, and the utilization of existing assets to their fullest extent. At the presentation, AMD focused in more detail on AMD's manufacturing efficiency rather than fabrication tactics. If AMD's plans on the embedded fabrication of both CPU and GPU succeed AMD may see an increased demand in markets, which have not been in the path of AMD, thus far. Myself, being an AMD fanboy, I hope that this new strategy aids AMD to get out of the hole which they've been digging, deeper and deeper as days go on, and put them on top of Intel, once again!

Microsoft Slashes $20 Off the Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player

On Thursday, Microsoft announced that it would lower the price of their Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player add-on, from $199 to $179, slashing $20 off of the price. To make this deal even more intriguing they are throwing in five free movies, if you buy the accessory between August 1 and September 30.

If you've been waiting for a price drop to buy this add-on its here staring at you directly in the face. Whether you want to add HD-DVD playback to your 360 console, or want a cheap HD-DVD player for your PC (with a little hacking of course) its a great deal, and don't miss out! This could be the push HD-DVD needs to take the lead of the High Definition-DVD wars, but we shall see in the near future, I hope.

Peter Moore is Leaving the Xbox Team

Peter Moore has resigned from his position of corporate vice president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division. Why did he resign? Well it seems that he has decided to move back to the Bay Area for personal reasons. What will he do next? Well, sources say that Moore will be moving to EA's Sports Division.

His seat will be left empty for just a mere second as his replacement Don Mattrick, a former Electronic Arts President, will be taking over really soon, a bit ironic don't you think. Mattrick, has been Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division since February. He says that "I'm thrilled to join an already strong team that's delivering truly amazing gaming experiences to customers around the world. I've never been more excited about the future of the industry and firmly believe Microsoft will lead the next great innovations in gaming."

Petter Moore's position will be hard to fill, lets just hope that Mattrick can bring as much for the Xbox team as Moore has. I wish the best for Peter Moore at EA and I welcome Don Mattrick to the team.

Yahoo! Messenger and Trillian Hit With Critical Vulnerabilities

On Monday, security researchers have disclosed security vulnerabilities for both Yahoo! and Trillian IM clients.

The Bug concerning Yahoo! Messenger, is a buffer overflow flaw, which could be exploited by a specially crafted address book entry. When the exploit is taken advantage of the client responds by crashing as soon as it's hit by the exploit. This exploit although it causes the client to crash, could still be vulnerable to code execution, meaning the attacker could run its own malicious code, and therefore take control of your machine.

As for the Trillian IM Client, it is plagued by two vulnerabilities, after being patched about a month or two ago. Security researches have identified both of the vulnerabilities in Trillian to be caused by the AIM URI (uniform resource identifier). This exploit is very similar to the vulnerability found in both the Firefox/Internet Explorer browsers, last week. Researchers say:

"The first example shows the dangers of passing unfiltered arguments to programs that have registered URIs (much like the firefoxurl: vulnerability). The second example shows that even if arguments are sanitized [emphasis in original] by the browser, many programs can be remotely pwnd via registered URIs and poor development practices."

Vulnerabilities for both clients have yet to be patched. Neither Yahoo! nor Cerulean Studios have not stated when a patch would be released for these vulnerabilities. I advise users of these two clients to be use them with caution, and ensure that you have your virus/spyware protection software up to date.

Microsoft Extends Xbox 360 Warranty to Three Years

Today, Microsoft announced that they will be taking a $1 billion hit by extending their Xbox 360 warranty for three years, as a result of many hardware failures. Microsoft views the many hardware failures as being "an unacceptable number of repairs to Xbox 360 consoles, the company conducted extensive investigations into potential sources of general hardware failures," Microsoft stated. Microsoft will cover consoles which experience failures up to three years from the date of purchase. Entertainment & Devices Division President Robbie Bach said in a statement:

"The majority of Xbox 360 owners are having a great experience with their console and have from day one. But, this problem has caused frustration for some of our customers and for that, we sincerely apologize."

Many have been plagued by their 360 consoles failing for one reason or another. Myself, knowing many of those who've had troubles with their consoles they still seem to love it, even though it has some quirks. Also many of those customers appreciate Microsoft for taking the blame and replacing their consoles. I just hope that Microsoft can improve the quality of their consoles because since launch, many have had troubles with the 360 consoles. Although this hasn't had much of an effect on the number of loyal users. So, just as a precaution if your experiencing any problems remember to send it off to Microsoft, before the warranty is over.

On Friday, at 6:00 PM local time Apple's ever popular iPhone is going to be released. With all the hype that the iPhone has been is getting, I think that many consumers will become very disappointed with the product. When your paying so much for a product, and that product has, lets just say "crippled" functionality it is completely unacceptable. Apple hurrying the release of this product and leaving end-users with a "crippled" phone is like saying we don't care about the users' experience, lets just bring in some revenue, and having that mind set is completely unprofessional of Apple. Dell Allows Users to Refuse 'Bloatware'

Finally, a company willing to give the user the choice of having 'bloatware' on their machines. 'Bloatware', if you aren't familiar with the term is all the software which comes on a PC when you buy it. It consists mostly of trials which give the user little to no functionality, with the 'bloatware' the companies try to lure you in to buying their software. How does the 'bloatware' get on the machines?, you might ask. Well, the software companies essentially pay the PC maker in this case that being Dell to put the software on those machines. PC makers allow this to occur because at the end of the whole process, they can sell the PC at a much lower price, allowing more consumers to afford the machines.

So, after many complaints from users Dell is giving the users a choice whether or not to have 'bloatware' on certain PC models. As of now buyers of Dimension desktops, Inspiron notebooks and XPS PCs can now click a field in Dell's online order form that will block the installation of 'bloatware' such as: productivity software, ISP (Internet service provider) software, and photo and music software. This is a great step for Dell, hopefully this will encourage other PC venders to do the same for their buyers.

Trillian "critical" patch released

Yesterday, Cerulean Studios, the maker of the multi-protocol chat software Trillian, issued a "critical" patch for Trillian 3.1.5.1, earlier versions of the software are also vulnerable to the attack. This vulnerability is in the character encoding in Trillian, mainly in the the word-wrapping handling of UTF-8, which is the Unicode Transformation Format used for encoding characters in e-mail, instant messages and Web pages. If an attacker takes advantage of this vulnerability, the attacker could then potentially launch a buffer overflow which would allow them to, remotely gain control of a user's system. The vulnerability can be exploited if the user views a malicious message which contains an unusually long UTF-8 string. The patch released on Monday updates Trillian to version 3.1.6.0, so make sure you update to fix the security flaws. To Learn more visit C|NET's News.com for a more detailed article.

If you aren't familiar with Trillian, from Cerulean Studios, it's a multi-protocol chat client. It enables users to use their Yahoo's Instant Messenger, AOL's AIM, MSN Messenger, IRC, and ICQ accounts all in one client. Which makes signing-in to multiple IM accounts very simple and convenient, ridding the user of launching all the various clients. I've used it for quite a while and I recommend it, if you want to give it a try visit their site for the download.

Windows Home Server RC1 Released

Reaching yet another milestone, Microsoft's Windows Home Server release candidate 1(RC1) was released today. Many have taken part in the beta program for WHS and all of those beta testers, along with new sign-ups will be able to get their hands on the RC. If you are intrigued by the whole concept of the WHS give the RC a go. As for me I'll have to scavenge a system to try this on, and when I do I'll report back to you. Its Patch Tuesday!!

Today, is the second Tuesday of the month, better known as "Patch Tuesday". On the second Tuesday of every month Microsoft releases patches for its Windows OS, and its become quite a ritual for a Windows users. But most don't even notice that these patches are release due to the fact that many have automatic updates turned on, ensuring they are always patched and protected from the insecurities of the web.

This month, Microsoft has fixed 15 flaws with six patches, four of those patches are being considered to be critical by Microsoft. Two of the released patches affect Microsoft's Windows Vista, one critical patch is for Internet Explorer, and one patch also affects Microsoft Office. I'll give you a brief description of each of the critical patches, for more information on the rest of the patches check out this article at C|NET's News.com. Don't forget to patch your systems!!

MS07-031: Critical
Entitled "Vulnerability in the Windows Schannel Security Package Could Allow Remote Code Execution (935840)," this bulletin affects users of Microsoft Windows 2000, XP SP2, XP Professional x64, and Windows Server 2003 (SP 1 and 2, x64, and Itanium-based systems) but does not affect Windows Vista, and it addresses the vulnerabilities detailed in CVE-2007-2218. Successful exploitation could lead to remote code execution.
MS07-033: Critical
Entitled "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (933566)," this bulletin affects users of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista, running Internet Explorer 5.01, 6.0, and 7.0 and addresses the vulnerabilities detailed in CVE-2007-0218, CVE-2007-1750, CVE-2007-1751, CVE-2007-1752, CVE-2007-3027, and CVE-2007-0222. Successful exploitation could lead to remote code execution.
MS07-034: Critical
Entitled "Cumulative Security Update for Outlook Express and Windows Mail (929123)," this bulletin affects users of Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista, running Outlook Express 6 and/or Windows Mail but does not affect Windows 2000 systems running Outlook Express 5.5 or 6 and addresses the vulnerabilities detailed in CVE-2007-2111, CVE-2007-1658, CVE-2007-2225, CVE-2007-2227. Successful exploitation could allow information disclosure.
MS07-035: Critical
Entitled "Vulnerability in Win 32 API Could Allow Remote Code Execution (935839)," this bulletin affects users of Windows 2000, Windows XP (all editions), and Windows Server 2003 (all editions) but does not affect Windows Vista and addresses the vulnerability detailed in CVE-2007-2219. Successful exploitation could allow remote code execution or elevation of privilege.

Yes, finally there is a Windows Media Player Plug-in available for Mozilla's Firefox browser. I've been waiting so long for this plug-in to be available, but now the wait is over, and I can now watch Windows Media videos within Firefox. Therefore, getting rid of the annoyance of opening IE or downloading the file and opening it. Great thanks to Microsoft's open source lab, for making this convenience possible. Xbox 360 Warranty and Service Enhancements

Today, Microsoft has once again made some changes to the warranty of their Xbox 360. The first, enhancement to the warranty is that Microsoft will waive the shipping fee when the user sends back a Xbox 360 that is still under the original warranty. Microsoft will send the user a postage paid container in order for the user to send the Xbox 360 back to Microsoft, and will also pay the shipping charges that are needed to send the console back to the user. The second enhancement in the warranty is that if Microsoft repairs your console within the original warranty period, the user will receive the balance of their original warranty or a 90-day warranty, depending on which is longer. Hopefully these enhancements are for the good of the consumer and not that of preparation for Xbox 360 Elite recalls. [Xbox.com]

Trojan Hits Skype Users

A trojan horse has plagued Skype users, in the same why in which they are spread through instant-messaging applications. The trojan is received when the user receives a chat message saying "check up this" which is a link to the executable "file_01.exe". Once the machine is infected the trojan will then send the same message to everyone on the user's contact list. Therefore, spreading very easily around the net. In order to remain secure keep an eye out for what chat messages you receive and be timid to click on links in your Skype messages even if they are from your contacts. [C|NET News.com]

Bill Gates to Recieve His Long Awaiting Harvard Degree

Bill Gates, having had to drop out of Harvard during his junior year to work full-time at Microsoft has never received his Harvard degree. His decision is seen as a good one by many, considering that Microsoft flourished.

Gates will finally receive his well deserved degree from Harvard when he speaks at Harvard's commencement ceremony in June. Every person who speaks at the commencement ceremony will receive a honorary Harvard degree. The Honorary Degrees are given for different subjects, but Harvard doesn't release whom will receive the degree for each subject.

Although, Bill is already quite successful he will finally get the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. Given that Bill will be stepping-down from his daily duties at Microsoft, this will truly give him a great departure. [Network World]

Adobe Launches Apollo

Today, Adobe has launched their first developer preview version of the Apollo toolset. This toolset will allow web developers to create desktop apps which can interact with any web page on the net.

If you have yet to hear about Apollo, it is a cross-platform runtime library. Apollo will allow for developers to create apps by the means of HTML, JavaScript, and Flash. This would allow for apps to be installed on machines simply buy clicking a download link, then installing to the users desktop. After the install the user can then access the program simply by clicking on the icon on their desktop.

The advantage of this new runtime library tech which Apollo brings is that the application can be ran without internet access. The applications can also connect to web sites adding interactivity, with the user's own PC, and other PCs.

Perhaps, the greatest aspect of this is that Adobe is giving away the runtime free of charge. Meaning more third-party software may come to be seen in the realm of PCs and mobile devices. This new technology differs from its competition because it works on multiple platforms, unlike Microsoft's Windows Presentation Foundation software. Apollo may have a great effect on third-party software as well as for commercial software such as Adobe's "Online Photoshop". All in all, this is a great innovation in software and I can't wait to see what is to come, and I'm sure you'll be as impressed as I.

AMD Mobilizes Xbox 360 Graphics

Today, at the Game Developer's Conference (GDC) AMD announced a new suite of developing tools for their new handheld gaming tech. Which might mean a new portable gaming device from Microsoft might be in the near future. Who wouldn't like to take their 360 graphics on the go? Hint, hint Microsoft we want a portable!!

Now for the tech aspect of the whole thing. The Suite announced today will include Rendermonkey 1.7, a shader tool that will allow game developers write graphics code for a variety of devices that can support the OpenVG 1.0, OpenGL 2.0, and Unified Shader Architecture technologies. In fact ATI's (now AMD) Unified Shader Architecture was one of the major selling points of Microsoft's Xbox 360. AMD's Imageon Processor line, which they announced last month, is literally a "GPU" for portable devices, and would certainly do the job, both in aspects of performance and price.

If the incredible gaming experience of the Xbox 360 can be pertained successfully with AMD's new technologies, we will certainly see a drastic move in the portable gaming realm. Microsoft's New VoIP Service: Be a Beta-Tester

Microsoft, yesterday at the VoiceCon trade show in Orlando, Florida announced their vision on Voice-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) with their new software. Their new service is being called: Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 and Communicator 2007. The entire public is being invited to join the beta program to assist Microsoft in dishing out the bugs. Microsoft expects millions to test the new software, and believe that in just three years about 100 million people will make calls through Microsoft Office apps.

The Communicator program, Microsoft says, is to be embedded into Microsoft Office apps making it an very user friendly experience for business coworkers to collaborate while dealing with important business documents. For example the software will feature "Click-to-Call" functions which will allow users to connect and talk by just simply clicking on the persons name in Microsoft Office apps. Some other features that the software will include are instant messaging and videoconferencing, which are included in other VoIP software currently available such as, Skype and Vonage.

Any users who are interested in beta-testing Microsoft's new VoIP software, just fill out the form on Microsoft's Website. I'll also be checking this out so I'll keep you guys posted.[LAPTOP]

MPAA Plagued with Yet Another AACS Key Extraction

The MPAA, is plagued once more by the "cracking" of their beloved AACS. This weekend a way in which AACS keys could be extracted from PowerDVD was found. Also this weekend marks the release of AnyDVD 6.1.2.9 which adds Blu-Ray support. From the looks of it i seen no end of the attack on AACS. As can be seen if you mess with the consumers fair-use rights you are in for a heck of a battle. So get ripping and express your fair-use rights as you so choose. [Engadget]

Microsoft Patches Xbox 360

Microsoft released a patch for their Xbox 360 today to fix a security vulnerability that could allow 360 users to install their own software including operating system such as a various Linux distribution. The updated fixes a problem in Microsoft's tamper protection mechanism. Microsoft confirmed the issue on Friday but they have not stated that the fix is a "security fix". The update was released by the means of Xbox Live silently today. Games which are coming out after February 20 will ship with the fix on the game disc. How cool would it be to install a Linux disro on your 360, oh why don't they just let the users play a little? [C|NET News.com]

Mac Wi-Fi Hijack Demonstration Puts a Sour Taste in Apples Mouth

In an interview with the people at News.com David Maynor talks about his experience with Apple on the topic of the Wifi Hack that both Jon Ellch reviled:
David Maynor, chief technology officer at Errata Security, at Black Hat on Wednesday finally broke the deadly silence on the issue of the Mac Wifi Hack. The controversy began last summer at the Black Hat Conference when David Maynor and "Jonny Cache" Jon Ellch demonstrated a vulnerability on the Mac by sending malformed network traffic to it, causing him to have complete control of the computer. After the presentation havoc began when the Apple Community and the Mac maker criticized both Maynor and Ellch for the release of the vulnerability. The Mac creator even when to the extent of pressuring Maynor to post a blog entry on the SystemWorks website stating that Macs were not flawed. Maynor plans to release the code used to execute the attack soon.

Then, about two months later what do you know Apple released, Mac OS X 10.4.8, which fixed the vulnerability that was found by Maynor and Ellch.
Maynor stated on Wednesday that:

"The vulnerability that was being exploited was now patched," Maynor said. "Apple released some security patches to address stuff I actually pointed them to and they claimed had nothing to do with me."

A bit after Apple released the security patches which fixed the vulnerability Maynor set to demonstrate the hack at the ToorCon hacker event in San Diego. But this event was pulled because Apple threatend to sue SystemWorks.

Maynor stated:

"I do not feel comfortable keeping relations with the company and will not report future findings to them."

Clearly, Apple is taking the credit for his findings while threating Maynor and Ellch for finding the vulnerabilities. Come on Apple, their job is to find security vulnerabilities and they found them, and in doing so allowed you to created a more secure operating system. As far as I'm concerned this is very unprofessional and immature of Apple, Apple give credit where credit is due![C|NET News.com]

Apple and Cisco Call it Tuths

Now who expected this lawsuit to be over so quickly? Apple has agreed to the exploration of "interoperability in the areas of security, and consumer and enterprise communications" according to WSJ. Although what that may mean is uncertain but we will surely find out soon. Steve Jobs wanted sole ownership of the name but the settlement entitles both companies to use the name "iPhone". This could be golden for Cisco because the key term "interoperability" could mean that Cisco could be involved in developments in the iPhone, maybe interoperability with both flavors of iPhone. We'll just have to what and see what comes of this settlement, but I'm almost certain that Apple will once again try to rid Cisco of the name next time much more forcibly.[Engadget]

HDMI prices these days have been falling drastically compared to months past. Although, those price drops aren't seen at retail stores such as Best Buy or Circuit City. They continue to make the consumer pay premium sometimes 10 times the price compared to online prices for the same quality of equipment. About a year ago we saw the HDMI switch prices reach $200+ which is outrageous if your a consumer. You can now find an automatic 3x1 HDMI switch for only $63.75 from Monoprice. If you don't need the automatic luxury and want to go manual there is also a barebone 2x1 HDMI switch for only $28.93. Don't be fooled by the retailers why pay a extremely high price when you can get the same functionality for much cheaper.[Gizmodo]

Microsoft is already drawing plans for it next OS to be released in 2009. Microsoft has stated that Vista's successor codenamed "Vienna" will not take nearly as long as Vista did to release (a long 5 years) it is going to be a fast release they said. They are not sure what "Vienna's" killer feature will be but I'm sure we will soon enough find out. All we can do as of now is just wait until more is released from Microsoft.[PC World]

Increase your Skype Video Call Resolution

For those of you that are just not happy with your current Skype video call resolution this should make you quite satisfied. By increasing the current resolution from 320x240 to 640x480. To do this you must update your current skype version to the latest version. Then edit the config.xml file in your Skype settings directory. But in order for this to work successfully the people this must be done on both ends of the call.[MAKE Blog]

Interview with BackupHDDVD creator

Everyone and their mom has heard about the breaking of the HDDVD encryption allwoing users to bypass AACS. The creator of the software allowing users to "backup" your HDDVDs has decided to speak out. In an interview with the people at Slyck he explains that he created the software because he was an "upset customer" wanting to "enforce fair use." He also explains the impact that his software has made in making progress in breaking the BlueRay encryption as well. He insists that in doing this it is not piracy it is just enforcing his fair use rights. Make sure to read the whole article it is very intriguing.[Slyck News]

As of now it is possible to install 3rd party hard drives to your 360, although there are some quirks. A hacker created a DOS-based program that allows the use of 3rd party drives, but only Western Digital BEVS hard drives thus far. There is also still the 20GB storage limit which has not been bypassed yet. But that issue should resolved when Microsoft releases their higher-capacity drives later this year.[Gizmodo]

Even though the worst of Apple's stock option scandal is over, as it seems that they won't get any break soon. In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday,it was revealed that the company is facing several previously unnoticed lawsuits, except now that is. The first case concerns unspecified damages to Apple's DRM system. Another case being a customer thriving to receive damage costs in response to a high rate of logic board failures in Apple's iBook G4 series. Lastly, the company PhatRat Technology has filed a claim against Apple claiming that Apple's Nike-Ipod product infringes their copyright. It seems that Apple will be in some deep trouble if any other law suits are to be filed against them.[Yahoo News]

As we all have heard James Kim, C|NET editor and family man, died trying to save his family. Even though he himself wasn't rescued his efforts in helping his family were successful.
